California State Ballot Propositions Overview

http://www.sos.ca.gov/elections/ballot-measures/qualified-ballot-measures.htm

Prop 30: If this passes, there will be a tax increase on people who make over $250,000 so that they can fund education. There will also be a sales tax increase and this prop, if passed, would guarantee funding for public safety services.

Prop 31: If this prop passes, local federal governments would get funding for the different services they coordinate. If voters vote yes on this it will stop politicians from creating programs with money that the state doesn't have and the Californias will know what the state is doing with their money.

Prop 32: If this prop passes that would mean that corporations and unions can not use money for the political purposes that was deducted from an employee;s paycheck.

Prop 33: Passing this prop would mean that insurance companies can give discounts to drivers that have prior insurance coverage. If they have not maintained insurance then the companies can make the prices higher for those drivers.

Prop 34: Instead of a death penalty, prisoners will be sentenced to life in jail with no possibility of parole. People already sentenced to death would be re-sentenced.

Prop 35: If this is passed, criminal penalties for human trafficking will be increased. The money that is fined will be used for victim services and law enforcement. They also have to register as a sex offender.

Prop 36: With this passed, people serving life sentences will be re-sentenced if their third strike was not very serious or violent. It also maintains life sentences if the priors were for rape, murder, or child molestation.

Prop 37: This prop would prohibit advertising or labeling on foods that is processed and falsely labeled "natural." It also makes sure that genetically engineered foods are labeled correctly.

Prop 38: This prop would increase personal income tax rates for education and early childhood programs.

Prop 39: Requires multistate businesses to calculate their California income tax liability based on the
percentage of their sales in California. Repeals existing law giving multistate businesses an option to choose a tax liability formula that provides favorable tax treatment for businesses with property and payroll outside
California.

Prop 40: If this passes then people approve of new State Senate districts that are drawn by the Citizens Redistricting Commission.
